The Industry of Powerex
Powerex provides power semiconductor solutions to many different markets in the form of many different applications. The SiC MOSFET Module and Hybrid Si/SiC IGBT Modules cater to Energy Saving Power Systems such as fans, pumps and consumer appliances. Powerex Fast Recovery Discrete Rectifiers are commonly found in the Transportation industry, as well as welding, medical equipment, induction heating and motor controls.
Powerex also offers IGBT Assemblies, such as the POW-R-PAK. The POW-R-PAK is used in many applications, including Energy Storage, Distributed Power Generation, Industrial Power Supplies, Motor Drives and Power Quality. Additional options for the POW-R-PAK include Blowers and Fans, Converter/Inverter, Diode or SCR and Dual Inverter or Converter. Powerex Semiconductor solutions can be found in various industries from Aircraft to Electric Vehicles and Industrial Pump Controls to Welding.
A Brief History of Powerex
Established on January 1, 1986, Powerex is the result of a combination of two pioneers in the power semiconductor industry - the Power Semiconductor Divisions of General Electric Company and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. With the idea of advancement toward the future, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation established an equity position in Powerex. In 1994, Westinghouse sold its shares to General Electric and Mitsubishi Electric, which currently share equal ownership of Powerex.
The Powerex Corporate office resides in Youngwood, Pennsylvania and currently employees around 325 people. In addition to the Powerex manufacturing facility/corporate headquarters in Youngwood, PA, USA, Powerex also serves the global market via its manufacturing facility in Tangiers, Morocco.
