OVERVIEW

Roll grinders are used to refinish and shape rolls used to produce hot strip steel from ingots. To properly roll the steel, the surface must be free from imperfections and must have the correct crown. The rolling process tends to wear the steel roll in the center to a concave, rather than convex profile. Pits and "firecracks" are other imperfections that are produced during the process. These flaws are removed by the roll grinder.

Older roll grinding systems are usually controlled by DC variable speed drives and large DC motors. While the motors usually stand up quite well, the drives eventually become obsolete and trouble-some. The older analog drives are also prone to drift and have setup problems not found in the new digital units. Control your motors with the latest in DC digital drives. These drives have easy setup and parameter documentation as well as advanced programming and configuration that adapts to the requirements of your grinding process.
