The history of The ABB Group can be traced back to the late nineteenth century, and has a long and illustrious record of innovation and technological leadership in many industries. In many ways, The ABB Group was founded by Ludvig Fredholm (of ASEA) and Charles E.L. Brown and Walter Boveri (of BBC) in the late 1800's.
A merger in 1988 between automation moguls ASEA, and the mainstream energy and power company BBC, labeled the new company ABB. In 1988, after the merger, ABB employed 160,000 people around the world and had revenues of $17 Billion. Compare that to ABB's 135,000 employees and revenues of $31.6 Billion in 2010.
Having helped countries all over the world to build, develop and maintain their infrastructures, ABB has in recent years gone over from large-scale solutions to alternative energy and the advanced products and technologies in power and automation that constitute its Industrial IT offering.
