Dampers
A damper is a device that regulates airflow inside ducts or chimneys. They are standard components in HVAC systems, used for zone-by-zone temperature and climate control.

Most modern dampers are automatically operated, controlled by damper actuators which are in turn controlled by HVAC controllers like thermostats and other building automation systems. Electronic damper actuators provide increased degrees of damper control with modulating and floating functions. They are ideal for variable air volume installations to control return air, mixed air, exhaust and bypass dampers.

Dampers can also be used to prevent the spread of fire and smoke, with properly-rated dampers and damper actuators. These systems meet specific safety requires and feature fast-acting mechanisms.

Intended for use on UL listed smoke control dampers or combination fire/smoke rated dampers, the OpenAir GGD Series Direct-coupled, Fast Acting, Two-position, Spring Return Electronic Actuators are available in 24 VAC, 115 VAC, and 230 VAC models. The GGD Series Spring Return Actuator is used for the control of dampers requiring up to 142 lb.-in. (16 Nm) driving torque. It is intended for control of UL listed smoke control dampers or combination fire/smoke HVAC dampers. This actuator is designed to meet the 2002 revisions to the UL 555S rating up to 350°F (177°C) and AMCA 500-D specifications.

These Series 62 Modutrol IV™ Motors non-spring return floating control motors are used with controllers that provide a switched spdt or floating output to operate dampers or valves. These motors also have an internal electrically isolated feedback potentiometer that provides indication of the motor shaft position. Some models can be used for slaving Series 90 Motors.

The M9106-xGx-2 Series direct-mount electric actuators operate on AC 24 V power and are available for use with on/off, floating, or proportional controllers. These non-spring-return actuators are easily installed on a VAV box, a damper with a round shaft up to 1/2 in. (13 mm) in diameter, or a square shaft up to 3/8 in. (10 mm). The M9106 with an M9000-520 linkage can also be used to position VG1000 Series 1/2 in. (DN15) to 1-1/2 in. (DN40) ball valves. The M9106 Series models have 53 lb-in (6 N-m) running torque. These actuators have a nominal 60-second travel time for 90° of rotation at 60 Hz (72 seconds at 50 Hz) with a load-independent rotation time. The M9106-xGC-2 models are available with integral auxiliary switches to perform switching functions at any angle within the selected rotation range. The -GGx models feature DC 0(2) to 10 V position feedback, and the -AGF models provide 10,000 ohm position feedback.

MS4120, MS7520, and MS8120 Spring Return Direct Coupled Actuators (DCA) are used within heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. They can drive a variety of quarter-turn; final control elements requiring spring return fail-safe operation.
