MADISON HEIGHTS, MI -- Galco Industrial Electronics is proud to offer EPCOS EMC filters that protect against overvoltage and overcurrent.

EPCOS AG is a leading EMC and EMI/RFI filter manufacturer with headquarters in Munich, Germany. The EPCOS Group has design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Europe, Asia, and in North and South America where it produces EMC filters and EMI/RFI filters.

EPCOS developed several EMC filters that reduce both electromagnetic emission and electromagnetic susceptibility; SineFormer™, SIFI, and EMI/RFI filters.

EPCOS EMC Filters

According to Galco's Product Manager, Ken Kruzmanowski, "EPCOS filters stand out for numerous reasons. "EMC filters from EPCOS use chokes with outstanding technical properties. All chokes have exactly reproducible and optimized RF characteristics and are matched to the relevant application (e.g. saturation characteristic with respect to pulses). Both for this reason and because of their design, the filters have reproducible properties (such as insertion loss). Another important feature in the design of all EPCOS EMC filters is the minimization of parasitic effects. Parasitic capacitances, Cp, impair the RF characteristics of the filters, and are related to the filter geometry. These capacitances may affect the lines mutually (differential-mode) as well as the line-to-ground circuit (common-mode). Because of these effects, EPCOS filters have included excellent interference suppression characteristics right up to high frequencies.Another important feature is that these EPCOS filters can bring most motor drives into compliance with limits set by the FCC and European EMC Directive."

  • SineFormer™ Series
    In contrast to conventional filter topologies, the SineFormer™ simultaneously converts the phase-to-phase voltages into a sinusodial signal, damps the common mode currents and also forms the conductor-to-ground voltage to sine-shaped voltage. The result is harmful motor windings voltage peaks are supressed and bearing currents are reduced to negligible levels, significantly increasing the operating life of the motors. The most important benefit is the cost savings because SineFormer™ practically eliminates EMC problems. Motors protected by this filter do not require expensive shielded motor cables or special cable ducts.


    • SIFI Series
    The 2-line EMC filters in the SIFI F/G/H families come as a compact modular system with minimal dimension for different insertion loss requirements and current ratings. The series range from SIFI F that offers very good insertion loss and the smallest dimensions through SIFI H for maximum insertion loss. SIFIs are available as a standard version or medical version with reduced leakage current (max. 0.002 mA). The three series offer an extended range of rated current from 3A to 36A at 250 VDC/AC and a climatic category (IEC 60068-1) of 25/100/21. Special construction makes the new SIFIs smaller than comparable products for less cost.
  • EMI/RFI Series
    A third category includes EMI/RFI filters for motor drives. These filters are available in standard or custom, single or three phase configurations. EMC filters attenuate the EMI/RFI caused by power switching devices such as IGBTs and SCRs. IGBTs and SCRs are common in motor drives. Use these filters where motor drives or other electronic power converters share a common power source with or are in close proximity to other electronic equipment. Ideal applications include: motor drives, elevators, pumping, traction systems, HVAC, wind farms, photovoltaics, UPS, and power supplies.
