Fuse Holder - Basic Properties, Terminology and Theory

What is a Fuse Holder?

Fuse Holder Fuseholders consist of wire connectors, insulators, fuse clips and block segments that can add onto fuse holders.

Wire connectors come in three different types; screw, pressure plate and box. Screw type is for copper wire with terminals. Pressure plate type is for copper wire and eliminates the need for wire terminals because the wire is held captive under a steel pressure plate. This type is recommended where vibration is a factor. Box type terminals are the most durable and versatile connectors for stranded or solid wire. Aluminum box connectors accept both aluminum and copper wire. Copper box connectors are for copper wire only. Lug and stud connectors are also a choice.
Fuse block insulators are either phenolic or molded polycarbonate. All blocks exceed the rated voltage clearance and creepage requirements of UL and CSA for general industrial control equipment. All blocks have successfully passed high current withstand short circuit tests and are suitable for application up to the interrupting rating of the fuse class used.
By specifying an "international" fuseholder, it will not be necessary to change a holder when shipping the end product outside of North America. International fuseholders allow the use of either 1/4" x 1-1/4" fuses (North American market) or 5 x 20mm fuses (E.E.C. market). This is achieved by switching the interchangeable fuse carriers, while the body stays the same. Some OEM's pack both types of fuses and fuse carriers in the end product.
No current and voltage marking is required for fuseholders designed to be used with fuses specified in IEC Pub. 127.
Shock-proof design means that current carrying parts cannot be accessible when the fuseholder is installed as in normal use. RESISTANCE
  1. The average contact resistance cannot exceed 5 milliohms
  2. Tested with both AC and DC current
  3. Insulation resistance cannot be less than 10 megaohms
Fuseholders are available in a variety of sizes for small dimension miniature and midget fuses, panel mount, printed circuit board types, semiconductor, IEC ferrule, plating rectifier, automotive, cube, class CC, class G, class H, class J, class R, class T, in-line fuses including waterproof, as well as fuse clips for circuit boards.
