What is a Press?
What is a press
A press is a machine that is used to shape, bend, cut, or fold materials such as plastic, metal, paper, or wood. The material rests or is fastened to the bolster while the die moves downward into the material causing the bend or cut into the desired shape.
Types of Presses
  • Brake Press: types of presses Brake presses use hydraulics to move a wedge down into the work pressing the metal into open space below the work. This causes a bend in the metal at a certain degree of angle.
  • Punch Press: Punch presses are used to create holes in materials such as metal, wood, or plastics. The material usually passes through the press, is secured while it is being formed or cut, and then moves on for more material to pass.
  • Stamp Press: Stamping presses are used for cutting and shaping metal. The metal or some other material is fastened to the bolster while the die presses the secured metal creating the desired size and shape of metal.
  • Printing Press: Printing presses are used to create text and images on paper. The paper passes through the machine while the ink is rolled or pressed onto the sheets of paper by applying pressure.
