Transducers
Transducers are used to convert one form of energy into another.

There are two primary types of transducers: sensors and actuators. An electronic thermometer, for example, is a sensor that detects heat energy and reports temperature. A transducer is needed to convert the heat energy into an electrical signal that can be displayed on a gauge or meter. Actuators, on the other hand, receive an electrical input signal and perform a physical action. Transduction occurs when the signal is converted into a force.

Transducers are found in most automation, measurement and control applications. They are commonly used to report force, pressure, position or current values. They are also used to convert signals for measurement.

Setra Systems Model 230 is a high output, low differential pressure transducer designed for wet to wet differential pressure measurements of liquids or gases. A fast-response capacitance sensor and signal conditioned electronic circuitry provide a highly accurate, linear analog output proportional to pressure. Both unidirectional and bidirectional pressure ranges are available for applications with line pressure up to 250 psig. A unique isolation system transmits the motion of the differential pressure sensing diaphragm from the high line pressure environment (e.g. corrosive liquids) to the dry (air) enclosure where it moves one of a pair of capacitance plates proportionally to the diaphragm movement. All parts exposed to the pressure media are stainless steel and elastomer seals. The 230 has a NEMA 4/IP65 rated package to withstand environmental effects. This system responds to pressure changes approximately 20 times faster than conventional fluid-filled transducers. The electronic circuit linearizes output vs. pressure and compensates for thermal effects of the sensor. The Model 230 can be supplied with a 3-valve manifold assembly (ordered as Pressure Fitting Code V) to protect against excessive differential overpressure, which may occur during installation, start-up or shut-down. The 230 bleed ports allow for total elimination of air in the line and pressure cavities. The manifold’s rugged, yet compact, construction requires minimum space for installation. If the Model 230 is ordered with the 3-valve manifold, the system is shipped completely assembled and ready for wall or pipe mounting.

The P499 Series Electronic Pressure Transducers are compact, economical, and rugged direct-mount pressure transducers designed for use in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning applications. These transducers produce an analog signal based on the sensed pressure. The P499 Series transducers feature environmentally protected electronics with stainless steel construction. The digitally compensated P499 transducers are highly accurate over a broad temperature range, resisting the effects of wide ambient temperature swings, high humidity, condensation, and icing. The pressure port is machined from a solid piece of 17-4PH stainless steel. No O-rings, organic materials, or welds are exposed to the pressure media, allowing for a leak-proof, all-metal, sealed pressure system. The P499 Series transducers operate with any corrosive or non-corrosive pressure medium that is compatible with 17-4PH stainless steel, including water, condensate, carbon dioxide, glycol, most refrigerants (including ammonia), and many other compatible fluids and gases. The P499 Series provides transducers in a variety of pressure ranges, covering most common refrigeration and air conditioning applications.

Setra Systems 260 pressure transducers sense differential or gauge (static) pressure and convert this pressure difference to a proportional electrical output for either field selectable unidirectional or bidirectional pressure ranges. The 260 Series is offered with field selectable high level analog outputs of 1 to 5, 0 to 5, and 0 to 10 VDC, or 4 to 20 mA. Used in Building Energy Management Systems, these transducers are capable of measuring pressures and flows with the performance necessary for proper building pressurization and air flow control. The 260 Series transducers can be configured for air pressure ranges as low as 0.1 in. W.C. full scale. Static standard accuracy is ±1.0% full scale in normal ambient temperature environments. The units are temperature compensated to within ±0.02%FS/o F (0.036%FS/o C) for zero and span.

Setra Systems 264 pressure transducers sense differential or gauge (static) pressure and convert this pressure difference to a proportional electrical output for either unidirectional or bidirectional pressure ranges. The 264 Series is offered with a high level analog 0 to 5 VDC or 4 to 20 mA output. Used in Building Energy Management Systems, these transducers are capable of measuring pressures and flows with the accuracy necessary for proper building pressurization and air flow control. The 264 Series transducers are available for air pressure ranges as low as 0.1 in. W.C. full scale to 100 in. W.C. full scale. Static standard accuracy is ±1.0% full scale in normal ambient temperature environments, but higher accuracies are available. The units are temperature compensated to 0.033% FS/o F thermal error over the temperature range of 0o F to +150o F.

Setra Systems Model 267LCD and 267MR pressure transducers sense gauge (static) or differential pressure and convert this pressure and convert this pressure to a proportional electrical output. The 267 series is offered with a high level DC output or 4-20 mA output. The 267MR offers multi range capability and field configurable 0-5 VDC or 0-10 VDC output, as well as a 4-20 mA output. The 267LCD is a single range unit with a standard accuracy of ±0.5% at no additional charge, and an integral LCD display. (Optional accuracies are available for the Model 267LCD.) Used in Building Energy Management Systems, the 267LCD and 267MR pressure transducers are available for air pressure ranges as low as 0.1 in. W.C. Full Scale up to 100 in. W.C. Full Scale. Static accuracy is ±1% Full Scale for the Model 267MR, and ±0.5% Full Scale for the Model 267LCD in normal ambient temperature environments. Setra’s Model 231 Multi-Sense® Wet-to-Wet differential pressure transducer all inclusive design provides users with field accessible ranging, choice of output and field zeroing. Choose from three configurable Model 231 pressure transducers: 5 up to 50 psid, 10 up to 100 psid, or 25 up to 250 psid. Each Model 231 has 4 unidirectional and 4 bidirectional switch selectable pressure ranges and can be reconfigured in the field for 0-5 VDC, 1-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, or 4 to 20 mA output. (The 4 to 20 mA output is operable as a true 2-wire device.) The Model 231 jumper selectable port swap feature eliminates costly replumbing if the pressure transducer is improperly installed or replaced. An optional LCD display is available for on-site indication of line and differential pressure. The Model 231 is designed with Setra’s own dual pressure sensors, which incorporate thin film sensing technology. This technology offers exceptional thermal accuracy and signal linearity. Utilizing this technology, the Model 231 is resistant to long-term drift caused by dopant migration and Fermi-level effects, intrinsic in piezoresistive and silicon based technologies, which are exaggerated at elevated temperatures and by extended pressure cycling.
