Soft Starters
A soft starter is a device used to temporarily reduce load and torque during motor startup.

A motor typically draws inrush current up to 10 times higher than their running current during startup, and up to 3 times higher torque. This kind of mechanical stress dramatically reduces the motorís service life, and the large power draw can propagate to other equipment in the system. Soft starters are designed to eliminate these undesired side effects of motor startup.

Soft starters reduce starting torque by temporarily reducing voltage or current input, allowing the motor to accelerate smoothly. Soft starters are also able to control motor deceleration, reverse motor direction, and provide overload protection. They are an ideal alternative to drives where a more cost-effective, simple solution is required.

S752 Line of Reduced Voltage Soft Starters is very compact, multi-functional, easy to install and easy to program. Designed to control the acceleration and deceleration of three-phase motors, the device is available in configurations to be applied either in the line of the motor, or in the delta windings of the motor. The in-line device is available for current ranges from 0.25 to 50 amps. The inside-the-delta device is available for current ranges from 0.44 to 78 amps.
The S752 is a redesign of the popular S751 soft starter. Design enhancements include an increased current rating, short circuit coordination ratings with breakers and fuses, and inside-the-delta control. The S752 has replaced the S751 in the Cutler- Hammer product offering.
The S752 is designed to be a complete package combining the SCRs, bypass contactor and overload in one, very compact device. The S752 is available as a component for panel mounting, in Motor Control Centers or in Enclosed Control (NEMA Type 1, 3R, 4, 4X, 7/9 and 12).

The PST range is a microprocessor-based softstarter designed with the latest technology for soft start and soft stop of motors. The PST Softstarter has several advanced motor protection features as standard. The four-button keypad and the logic structure of the menu make the installation, commissioning and operation easy. The PST Softstarter can be used with or without a by-pass contactor. The larger sized models include a built-in bypass contactor. The PST Softstarter can be selected according to the rated motor power in normal duty applications like pumps, compressors, elevators, escalators, short conveyor belts and bow thrusters.

GE's new solid state ASTAT XT Soft Starter features microprocessor control digital technology. Setup and adjustment is performed through a six-button keypad and parameters or messages are displayed through a user-friendly LCD multi-language interface with two rows, sixteen alphanumeric characters each.
