GE - General Electric: Learn About GE - General Electric Products Here > General Electric was formed in 1892 after the merger of Thomas Edison's Edison General Electric Company of Schenectady, New York and Thomas-Houston Electric Company of Lynn, Massachusetts. To this day, both companies continue to operate under the GE Banner. The company was incorporated in New York, with the Schenectady plant used as headquarters for many years afterwards. Canadian General Electric was formed shortly after, and there is also now a location in Farmington, Connecticut, while the headquarters are located in Fairfield, Connecticut. General Electric was one of the Original 12 companies listed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, and is the only company of those 12 remaining to this day. General Electric employs over 305,000 people and is involved in numerous industries.
