Power Management

Automated guided vehicle (AGV) power management systems provide several levels of protection and efficiency. Also called battery management systems (BMS), these systems are multicomponent usually consisting of a battery (batteries or battery packs), a charging contact system, and a protocol system for interfacing, configuring, and monitoring.

BMSs help to extend battery life, ensure battery safety, keep batteries cool, balance cells, and monitor battery charge and health. This vigilance of power management helps to maintain the shelf life of AGVs by avoiding overheating of critical electrical and electronic components that could become a fire hazard and by safeguarding the AGV against careless errors or poor functionality due to a low charge, imbalance in power cells, or from powering down in potentially dangerous situations.
